During this week, we’ve seen BIG in an epic comeback from early departure towards Lower Bracket. After they lost to Extra Salt in their first encounter during FunSpark ULTI 2020, they had to take down Evil Geniuses, Complexity, HAVU, and in the end, Forze.
The finals were everything but smooth. As an upper bracket finalist, Extra Salt started the match with one map advantage, followed by the tight win in the first played map, Dust 2.
What happened afterward was quite a shocking turnover. Extra Salt started the following map with the lead, yet BIG managed to take over control in this one, beating the American team with a score of 13 – 16.
The last two maps, Vertigo and Overpass, were equally dramatic with no room for error. The score in both of these was 14 – 16, which made Germans the FunSpark ULTI 2020 Europe Final winners.

The German roster showed an outstanding determination and remarkable recovery from an opening loss, which paid off in the end. More precisely, they took home $150,000 out of the total $250,000 prize pool for this event.
“It didn’t matter how many silly rounds we lost in this tournament, we managed to stay cool,” tabseN added during his post-match interview. He also mentioned a somewhat similar scenario during the DreamHack Masters Spring – Europe. During that grand finals, the French-Serbian crew successfully recovered from 2 – 0 versus G2, giving them a golden title just like this one.
On the other hand, Extra Salt will have to satisfy with the second spot, and perhaps they’ll take a lot from this competition. Unfortunately, their carry players Justin “FaNg” Coakley and Josh “oSee” Ohm aren’t enough if their goal is to sweep down more polished European rosters.
