Here’s the story of Kuro Salehi “KuroKy” Takhasomi, one of the Dota 2 legends that began his career playing the original Dota professionally and reached the heights of Dota 2 gaming.
Who is KuroKy?
KuroKy is one of the legendary Dota 2 players famous for being on the pro scene since he was 16. He has won many tournaments, including 2017 The International as captain of Team Liquid. He is also one of the rare players to attend almost all TIs, only missing the 2021 TI.
KuroKy is considered one of the greatest players of Dota 2, able to fit many roles during matches. He was famous for being a carry, support, and captain.
His favorite heroes include Io, Visage, and Rubick, although his skills and knowledge of the game exceed way past these three heroes.
Over the course of his long and successful career, he was a part of many famous Dota 2 pro teams such as Na’Vi, Team Secret, and Team Liquid. KuroKy is currently the captain for Nigma Galaxy (Team Nigma) with GH, Miracle-, Sumail, and MinD_ContRoL. He doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon.
How Did KuroKy Become Famous?
KuroKy was one of the legendary Dota 2 players that were already famous when he won TI in 2017 as Team Liquid’s captain.
He was one of the best supports and carries before becoming captain. Many fans think his fame began when he joined the famous Na’Vi in 2013 but scored a disappointing 7th-8th place.
Nevertheless, his friendship and multiple collaborations with Puppey made him more visible on the scene, especially in 2014, when he joined Team Secret. Although Team Secret won many tournaments prior to the 2015 TI, they failed to get to the finals, despite having a superb roster. The same year, KuroKy joined Team Liquid (team of players like Hungrybox) as a captain, and that’s when his popularity boomed the most.
Thanks to his superb leadership skills and tame and humble nature, he won his first TI in 2017 and secured a place as one of the most successful Dota 2 players.
KuroKy Debut Teams
KuroKy started competing when he was 16. He played Defense of the Ancients, the original War3 mod.
He was a successful carry for the mousesports team. He later joined Kingsurf.Int, Nirvana.int, Meet Your Maker, and Ks.int.
Thanks to his sessions with mousesports, he met Clement Ivanov, AKA Puppey, and thus, the bromance began.
When Dota 2 came to the gaming scene in 2011, KuroKy was with GosuGamers.net.
During the very first The International, KuroKy made his first public appearance alongside Kebap, Azen, and Mirakel. After failing to go past the group phase, KuroKy played for not-so-famous teams like PANZER and 10,000th with little success.
Given that KuroKy was the best player on these teams, other players dubbed them as KuroKy + 4.
However, his debuts led him to the first big name in Dota 2–Natus Vincere, AKA Na’Vi, in 2013.
That year, he competed alongside Puppey, Funn1k, XBOCT, and Dendi when they were the championship runners-up.
KuroKy Streaming
KuroKy has an active Twitch account under the account name KuroKy, but he doesn’t stream. He has a Twitch fanbase of around 14,000 viewers.
KuroKy Relationship
It remains a secret whether KuroKy has a girlfriend or not. Like many other Dota 2 and other eSports players, he tends to keep his private life under wraps.

He managed to win some of the biggest tournaments with various pro Dota 2 teams. With Team Secret, he won XMG Captains Draft 2.0, Dota Pit League Season 2, The Summit 3, ESL One Frankfurt 2015, and many others.

As we mentioned, he won The International in 2017, scored fourth place in 2018, and lost in the grand finals against OG in 2019.

KuroKy Personal Info
Kuro Salehi Takhasomi was born in Iran on October 28th, 1992. He didn’t spend much time there, as his parents soon moved to Berlin, Germany.
Childhood Health Problems
At a young age, KuroKy had difficulties with his leg and foot movement. Growing up with a not-so-healthy body, KuroKy grew fond of playing inside the house.
He recalls that he had struggled with his legs and feet after walking for thirty minutes. Although he felt down because he was an energetic child, he found his haven in video games.
Despite not being able to enjoy a normal childhood, KuroKy took his frustration and turned it into his future resilience and dedication as a Dota 2 captain.
Friendship with Puppey
Kuro Salehi Takhasomi is often described as a super-focused, down-to-earth player who can execute amazing tactics thanks to his strategic chops.
Although this ferocity and leadership stem from his problematic childhood, one professional Dota 2 player certainly influenced him in this way. Many fans connect his career with Puppey’s as the two became friends while playing on the mousesports team. The two played collaborated in many other pro Dota 2 teams, including Kingsurf.Int Na’Vi and Team Secret.
The two always wanted to win the biggest Dota 2 tournament as soon as Valve announced they would host the first TI in 2011 for a grand prize of one million dollars.
However, KuroKy wasn’t on the roster for Na’Vi’s TI-winning team. Instead, he competed with GosuGamers.net and didn’t score any notable results.
Although KuroKy will have an opportunity to play with Puppey on TIs in Na’Vi and Team Secret, the two never managed to win a TI together.
In fact, when he was in Team Secret, KuroKy got in a minor feud with Arteezy when they played on TI 5, which resulted in Arteezy and KuroKy leaving the team.
The “KuroKy Was Right, and Arteezy Was Left” Meme
During TI5, Team Secret was the favorite team to win the tournament thanks to its insane roster consisting of s4, Zai, Puppey, Arteezy, and KuroKy.
However, they failed to advance to the grand final when EHome defeated them 2-0. That’s when Arteezy blamed KuroKy for the result.
After the disastrous matches ended, fans could see Arteezy coming to KuroKy and berating him for poor plays.
However, Arteezy later stated that his hatred toward KuroKy was so bad that it even influenced how he behaved at TI5, thus contributing to the loss.
KuroKy, on the other hand, stated on Twitter that he could take a part of the blame on his shoulders, although Arteezy shouldn’t behave in such an immature way.
Both players left the team after TI5, with KuroKy trying to form his own team to try out his captain skills.
As both sides somewhat contributed to the loss of Team Secret’s TI5, there was a meme in the Dota 2 community saying: “KuroKy was right, Arteezy was left.”
While you can still speculate the meme’s true meaning, you could say that it nodded to Arteezy leaving Team Secret as soon as TI5 finished. In other words: Arteezy “left.”
Others say that the meme is about Arteezy’s atonement for his actions, meaning he wasn’t right (in this case, left).
Some fans even interpret the meme as Arteezy sat on the left (from the team’s POV) and, thus, KuroKy was right. Here’s an article if you want to explore this meme lore further.
Leadership and Psychology
KuroKy’s mental fortitude was one of the leadership qualities he showcased when he formed a team called 5Jungz that immediately caught the attention of Team Liquid.
Two months passed, and he was approached to lead Team Liquid, consisting of 5Jungz’s roster.
KuroKy was so dedicated to being the captain that he thoroughly studied psychology. He always stated that he played the game for fun and that this mindset always won him games.
In fact, when KuroKy won his first large share of a quarter million dollars from playing Dota 2 tournaments, he gave it to his dad, stating he didn’t need the money; the thrill was enough.
KuroKy always addressed the importance of being a tough nut to crack under pressure, and he achieved this by motivating his teammates not to care for the results.
He can often be seen talking to his teammates, saying in order to win, “they shouldn’t give a f*ck,” which is a reverse-psychology mind trick that seemed to work for 2017 TI.
Another quality of his leadership comes from his understanding of the importance of team play. He always claimed that no matter how good your roster is, you won’t win if you don’t practice together.
When faced with accusations from his fellow player Arteezy of ruining the 2015 TI, he responded that Dota 2 is a team game, and if you lose or win, you lose or win as a team, not because of a single individual.
KuroKy Net Worth and Finances
Although KuroKy likes to point out that he doesn’t play for prizes, prestige, or money, he is one of the highest-grossing players in the Dota 2 scene.
So far, he has won around $5.5 million thanks to his Dota 2 skills. Although he won numerous majors and other tournaments, most of this money comes from TIs.
For instance, when Team Liquid won TI in 2017, they shared a whopping $10,862,683 prize money. When you add other significant placements on TIs KuroKy had, you get one of the most lucrative Dota 2 careers.
