Here’s the story of Clement “Puppey” Ivanov, a legendary Dota veteran that doesn’t plan on retiring. And why would he? He still brings his A-game in Dota 2 tournaments!
Who is Puppey?
Clement “Puppey” Ivanov is one of the legendary Dota and Dota 2 players that helped Natus Vincere (Na’VI) to take the inaugural The International in 2011.
Since then, Puppey qualified in every single TI and mostly finished the championship in the top 4 teams.
His Dota 2 role is support and captain as of 2013. Puppey’s favorite heroes are Chen, Enchantress, and Bane. He was one of the founders of Team Secret in 2014 and is regarded as one of the wittiest and most fearless captains this game ever saw.
Even though he is 32 years old, Puppey still impresses the crowd around the globe and shows that he can still be a serious contender for another TI title.
Even though his career has many accolades, there were some controversies attached to his and Team Secret names. However, those never seemed to influence Puppey’s ability to excel in Dota 2 abilities.
How Did Puppey Become Famous?
Puppey first became famous when he joined the Na’Vi team in 2011. This was the year when Valve announced that they would host the first The Internationals, where Dota 2 players would compete for a whopping $1,000,000 prize.
Puppey joined the team wanting to play the original Dota. However, thanks to the rise of Dota 2, he and other Na’Vi players got beta keys for the game and started practicing only three weeks before the tournament!
When Na’Vi came onto the big scene of the TI finals, they were playing against EHome for a million-dollar prize. They defeated EHome 3:1 and became the first players ever to win TI.
Although Puppey became a Dota 2 megastar the same year, he didn’t stop surprising the community.
Captain and “Fountain Hook”
In 2012, due to ArtStyle’s retirement, Puppey became Na’Vi’s captain and took the team to the 2012 TI to win second place.
Perhaps the most famous TI plays Puppey had was in 2013. That’s when Puppey and Dendi pulled the infamous “Fountain Hook” play.
As Na’Vi had much trouble going against TongFu, they drafted Pudge and Chen in the next game. These were Dendi and Puppey’s favorites. As the game progressed, Dendi landed masterful hooks while Puppey teleported him to the base fountain, a hellish killzone. They pulled numerous brilliant Fountain Hook plays and won against TongFu.
Although the crowd was amazed, other pro players accused them of exploiting a bug and going for cheesy and unfair tactics when they didn’t have a plan.
Despite the accusations, the Fountain Hook tactic was legit (and still is) and took Na’Vi to the grand finals against Alliance, where they lost 2:3.
Secret “Team Secret”
Another pivotal point in Puppey’s career was when he formed Team Secret in 2014. His idea was to create an eSports team consisting of the best players in the world.
The name Secret stuck to the team as there was no consensus about the naming. The funny thing is that, at one point, some teams dubbed them “Pornsite Team” as there were rumors that Pornhub might be their sponsor.
Although the roster for the team was strong on paper, it turned out that consistent teamwork is what counts the most. Given how often it changed players, the team never managed to win a TI.
Although they were still theoretically good, in 2016, Puppey and Team Secret were a part of a controversy. Puppey and Kemal were accused of not paying their members on time and of physical and verbal abuse.
Today, Puppey is still breaking records, as he remains the only player to compete in every single TI ten times in a row.
Puppey Debut Teams
Puppey’s debuts were with smaller War3 Dota teams. His first pro games were with the “Xero Skill” (XsK) team in 2007. Puppey was still an unknown player. Despite that, after the first big tournament victory for the team in ESL Major Series, he earned respect from other pros. He started playing for KingSurf.Int in 2008, and scored some respectable results.
In 2009, Puppey was a temporary replacement for Mouz during DreamHack. That’s where he met his friend KuroKy.
In 2010 he joined Nirvana.Int, where he started showing more and more skill and leadership qualities.
However, as the advance of Dota 2 was unstoppable, Puppey struggled to get into big tournaments as everyone transitioned to the new game. Even when he joined Na’Vi, he played the OG Dota for a month before concentrating on getting some hours into Dota 2. That’s why most fans consid Na’Vi the first Dota 2 debut team of Clement Ivanov.
Puppey Streaming
Although Clement Ivanov has a Twitch channel by the name of Puppey, his last streams were six and eight years ago. He still has an impressive audience of 60,000 viewers, and he can still be seen on other channels such as Dota2mc.

Puppey Relationship
Even though Clement is known to be a party animal, he decided to settle down in 2017. His partner of choice was Kristi Kajak.
We don’t have enough information on Kristi and what she does for a living, although we can say that Puppey has been loyal to her ever since.
The couple tries not to reveal much about their relationship and keeps their private life behind closed doors.
Puppey Statistics
We can talk about numerous tournaments Puppey participated in and ranked among the top 4, but there’s not enough space to cover all of them. Instead, we’ll touch upon Puppey’s most notable achievements.
The most famous tournament Puppey won was the 2011 The International. This was the first ever tournament of this scale and range, and Puppey won it with Na’Vi.
However, Puppey didn’t want to stop there. He and the boys came back and tried to win TI the following year, and although they came close, they finished second. They had the same luck in 2012.
After playing for Team Secret, the highest they got was fourth place in 2019, and, during the latest TI in 2021, Puppey won third place.
Puppey also won some of the notable Dota 2 majors with Team Secret, such as The Shanghai Major 2016, The Chongqing Major, and MDL Disneyland Paris Major.
He also had success in multiple DreamLeague Seasonal tournaments. He also scored some impressive stats in other matches, including DOTA Summit, Epicenter, OMEGA League, and others.
By the end of 2021, Puppey was still considered one of the top players that could constantly be seen competing in notable Dota 2 Tier 2 and Tier 1 tournaments.
He still chases his dream of winning two TIs. At the beginning of his career, he mentioned that you need to repeat your success to cement it.
Puppey Personal Info
Clement “Puppey” Ivanov was born in Tartu, the second biggest town in Estonia, on March 6th, 1990. Since he was of minor age, he always liked the idea of playing games.
In fact, he was so enamored with games that he resented any other activities his parents tried to impose on him.
Puppey was not interested in the usual 9-5 job or the education schools had to offer. He was enamored with music and gaming. He thought that any practical education you could have should pertain to playing instruments or singing. That’s how he became a skillful heavy metal guitarist and played in a band.
That’s not to say that Puppey was bad at school. On the contrary; he couldn’t stand the idea of being caged in a classroom. Even though he didn’t have a fancy education, he speaks three languages—Estonian, Russian, and English—fluently.
His interest in guitar wasn’t enough, so he turned to other instruments and learned to play the violin, clarinet, saxophone, and drums.
As Clement always had an appetite for trying something new, his interest in FPS games started to fade, and he turned to RTS games. That’s how he got into playing Warcraft 3 and Icefrog’s Dota mod.
As Clement realized he was becoming better and better at Dota, he thought he could make a living out of it and joined some professional Dota clans, KingSurf.Int and Nirvana.Int being the most famous.
While trying to compete in a somewhat new and fresh Dota scene, Puppey accidentally met his future friend and teammate Kuraky.
Thanks to his many professional Dota matches, extremely competitive spirit, and exceptional tactical skills and leadership, Puppey quickly showed the qualities of a true captain.
As Dota 2 was on the horizon, Puppey quickly started learning the game. That was when he joined the Na’Vi Dota 2 team and won the first TI with Dendi, XBOCT, LighTofHeaven, Artstyle, and McDee as a coach.
The funny thing is that the team had only three weeks to prepare for The International, so they rushed to get Dota 2 beta keys and start practicing.
As Puppey is known as a somewhat fiery player, it’s not surprising that after winning TI, he went to Estonia, bought a downtown apartment, some guitar equipment, and then partied like an animal.
After 2011, Puppey never dropped out of TIs, thanks to the incredible fighting spirit he showed during Dota 2 matches.
However, his explosive decision-making and combative nature sometimes translate into real life. Namely, Puppey was seen to be breaking gaming gear more than once. In fact, it appears that he does this frequently, to the point he and his friends made a gag about it.
However, his imposing nature seemed to overshadow his Dota 2 skills in 2016 when a controversy occurred.
The 2016 Controversy
Puppey and Team Secret were at the center of accusations on February 16th, 2016, by their former manager Evany Chang. She stated that Team Secret didn’t pay her or the former players sums they earned from tournaments.
Puppey and Team Secret remained silent about these accusations, but his godly reputation was shaken.
However, that wasn’t the end of the scandal. The same year in October, Team Secret’s former member EternaLEnVy created a lengthy blog post of around 8,000 words and 80 screenshots to boost the drama further.
He accused Puppey of showing erratic behavior and even posted a video of Puppey breaking a monitor with his headphones.
EternaLEnVy described how Kemal and Puppey couldn’t pay their members on time, failed to secure them gaming equipment, and were taking a 10% cut out of all prize winnings the team secured without anyone knowing.
And he wasn’t alone. Team Secret’s former player MiSeRy also released a statement showcasing similar issues. Puppey was accused of getting physical with other players.
Puppey reacted this time. He defended himself and the team on Twitter, claiming that those allegations were false and that he didn’t need to prove his innocence as his close friends already know the truth.
It’s not sure how everything concluded, but Puppey’s career was dented in a way. His catchy “Fight me!” phrase got a completely different meaning.
Puppey Net Worth and Finances
Puppey is estimated to have a net worth of around $3,600,000. However, some rumors say that he might have even more.
Thanks to his tournament winnings, the number is around 4 million dollars, as we can estimate. If you add additional cuts that some former players of Team Secret claimed to be accurate, this number could be even higher.
